Feature highlights

We anchored the product experience in one core emotion: feeling safe and protected. Every feature and interaction was designed to reinforce this sense of calm confidence in uncertain moments.

􀁢

Constant readiness

The app provides continuous awareness of the Defender’s state, ensuring that it is always ready and nearby when users need it. Users never have to wonder whether their protection will work. They simply know.

We aim to use this steady awareness to create a sense of reassurance and trust, making users feel genuinely protected.

Effortless pairing for instant trust

The pairing experience was designed to be frictionless so that users quickly connect their device without confusion or drop-off.

This builds early trust, helps users feel that the device will function as their dependable companion.

Timely notifications for ongoing confidence

The app monitors the pepper spray canister’s expiration date, battery level, and firmware status, sending alerts when action is needed.

This empowers the users to make sure that the defender is always functional and optimized, and never has to worry if their protection will work when it matters most, fostering a sense of confidence

Find My integration for reliable presence

Through Find My network integration, the app notifies users if they leave their Defender behind.

This makes the product’s protection not only powerful but reliably present, every time the user step out.

Connected safety

The Circle is a feature that lets users stay connected with their trusted contacts by sharing their real-time safety status.

The feature transforms protection from something personal into something shared. It gives loved ones visibility and peace of mind, while giving users the quiet confidence that someone is looking out for them. This sense of connection turns technology into emotional safety, making protection feel both digital and human.

Notifications for everyday reassurance

Automatic notifications are sent to designated contacts in the Circle when users arrive safely at predefined zones such as home or work.

These light-touch updates create peace of mind for loved ones, while users can rest assured knowing their safety is quietly communicated.

Real-time tracking for added reassurance

When more assurance is needed, a live route view allows trusted contacts to follow the user’s journey in real time.

This optional layer of visibility provides added comfort and transparency for both sides, giving everyone confidence that help or support can be provided instantly if needed.

Instant alerts for emergency response

When the Defender enters Deter or Defend mode, contacts in the Circle are immediately notified, allowing them to take action, whether that means calling the police or going to the user’s location.

By turning a moment of fear into a coordinated response, the design transforms isolation into safety through connection.

Privacy settings for adaptive control

All visibility settings are easy to manage in settings, allowing users to choose who can see their status or receive alerts.

The system adapts to different trust levels, from close family to selected friends, so protection feels secure but never intrusive. This balance between openness and control preserves users’ sense of agency.

􀙨

Reliable protection

When danger escalates, the Defender is designed to be a reliable tool that supports users through every stage of the event.

Each response — to deter, defend, and document — is crafted to give users a sense of control and protection, even in moments of fear.

Alarm and light for active deterrence

The Defender enters deter mode when the protective door over the trigger is slid open. This automatically activates a blinding light and loud alarm, instantly drawing attention from bystanders and discouraging aggression. At the same time, video recording begins, and the aiming laser turns on in preparation for firing.

These signals are designed to de-escalate the situation before physical action becomes necessary.

Pepper spray for decisive defense

If the situation worsens, the pepper spray serves as a last-resort defense, giving users a tangible means to protect themselves.

Trigger ergonomics and tactile feedback were designed to ensure smooth operation and consistent performance under stress.

Video evidence for lasting accountability

After activation, the recorded video is automatically transferred to the app for secure storage as digital evidence.

This can be used for police reports, insurance claims, or legal proceedings, ensuring that support, accountability, and justice extend beyond the immediate event.
